There is no denying that Dior makes some of the most exquisite and beautiful things. If you love luxury, you probably love Dior.

While I have had my eyes on Dior ready to wear and accessories for a while now, I have only recently dove into Dior Beauty as of last year.

I had seen many pretty pictures on Instagram and TikTok, showcasing the beautiful packaging and swatches from this brand, but I always wondered how well these products would actually preform on my skin.

Last year, I went out and gave Dior Beauty a try with their Backstage collection–first with the original blushes and then with the eye shadow palette.

I’ll be sure to post my review on the Backstage blushes soon. But for today’s blog post, I wanted to go over my thoughts on the Dior Backstage eyeshadow palette. If you’re on the fence about purchasing these, I hope this comprehensive review will help you decided if this splurge is worth it for you.

Get The Most Our Of Your Dior Purchase

There are two way to get the most bang for you buck when buying Dior Beauty products. The first being buying from a store that offers Rakuten cash back.

I talk about Rakuten every chance I get because it really is a good way to get cash back on purchases you were already planning on making. Most department and beauty stores that sell Dior are also partnered with Rakuten so you can earn anywhere from 2%-10% cash back on your purchase.

And best of all, new Rakuten members can now get an additional $30 cash back when they sign up using this link here!

The second way to get the most out of Dior is to join their loyalty program and shop with them directly.

Their loyalty program comes with so many perks, including gifts for when you reach each new tier, beauty consultations, birthday gifts etc, etc. Plus Dior is always giving a way a TON of freebies when you order from them, so its always worth checking them out and seeing what their current offering is.

What Is Dior Backstage?

Launched in 2019, the Dior Backstage line offers luxurious and professional looking make up for a less expensive price point (compared to their other offerings).

Targeted towards younger millennials and Gen Zer’s the Dior Backstage line takes a more inclusive approach to make up, actively showcasing its wide range of colors and tones. This line is meant to work for everyone.

Specifically looking at the eyeshadow palettes, Dior presents us with 8 shadows + a primer in a square acrylic compact with enough color variation to give us modest or dramatics looks.

From the Dior site itself:

“Inspired by the backstage energy of Dior runway shows, the eye makeup palette combines 9 ultra-pigmented, easy-to-blend eyeshadows in matte, pearlescent, metallic, holographic and glittery finishes. Each shade range is the interpretation of a color theme, available in complementary shades to achieve a multitude of looks.”

With the Backstage line, we are getting a considerable amount of product from Dior at a lesser price point. And most of that has to deal with the components the products are packaged in itself.

The Backstage line kind of peels back a lot of that luxuriously packaging, leaving you with a more minimalist and plain (cheaper) component.

I’m personally not a fan of the packaging for this line. However I know that so many are and that many actually prefer the look compared to some of the other packaging that Dior has put together.

How Does It Wear?

Dior boost that this product has a smooth, easy to blend formula and I 100% agree.

While they might have held back on the fancy packaging, they continued to still use premium ingredient for the eye shadows.

Most (thought not all ) of the back stage palette come with an eye primer that I think is pretty fantastic. I apply the primer first and then apply my shadows on top–which they lay easily and beautifully down.

While some showdown will end up falling to my creases or wearing off pretty quickly, the Dior Backstage shadows tend to stay put and look excellent and fresh all day long for me.

What’s The Color Range And Payout?

Since its launch, the Backstage color palettes have seen a lot of variations in colors. Be Dior always seems to have an offering of warm, neutral and cool palettes available. This should make it a lot easier for people to find at lease one pallet that works for them.

These shades come fairly pigmented too. With darker skin, it can sometimes be pretty difficult to find an eye shadow that stands out nicely against my skin. But these shadows with the primer show up beautifully again my skin

A little bit goes a long ways with these shadows too. With some shadows I feel like I need to add a ton of product to my brush in order to get some payout. But that’s not the care with these pallets. I feel like these will work well for any shade and tone of skin.

One thing that I think works against these palettes is how they stick to a color theme. While the colors do play very nicely together, each palette is pretty safe when it comes to experimentations. While you can create very bold looks with a single palette, you’ll need multiple pallets if you want to play in a range of colors.

How Much Are They

At the time of this posting, the Dior Backstage eyeshadow palette retail for $52.00 USD. This is by no means a cheap purchase, but it is less expensive compared to other palettle in the Dior line up or even other contemporary luxury brands.

Just to compare, Dior also sells the Diorshow, 5 shadow palette, that have a little more than half the product that the Backstage eyeshadows do for $13.00USD more at $65.00USD. And Chanel sells their quad eyeshadow palette for $68.00USD. So compared to these other collections, you’re getting a lot of bang for your buck here.

While you are getting a lot for a luxury brand, compared to other high-end make up brands, you can probably get a better deal.

Make Up by Mario, ABH, Too Faced and Urban Decay all sell paettles for around the same price as the Dior Backstage one.

However you’re getting 50-75% more shade options and more product over all with these brands. And while I don’t think that the application of some of these shadows are as nice as the Dior Backstage, they all offer beautifully done and comprehensive palettes that most will be happy with.

You can defiantly make your money go longer by switching to a different brand here.

Final Thoughts

If you want a touch of luxury in your life, the Dior Backstage eyeshadow palette might just do it for you.

While I personally find the packaging to be somewhat lacking (you don’t even get a minor in this price point), the formula is so smooth and applies like butter to your lids.

I particularly enjoy how nicely these show up on my skin as well as a darker skinned woman.Often times things don’t look the same once transferred from the pan to my skin, so I appreciate the the color pay off is there with Dior.

Ultimately, it’s important to know that even at a lesser price point here, you are still paying a big premium for the name and the experience of the brand. For some, this will be worth it because the product is great.

But for others, you might be happier spending your hard earned coins with another brand offering a lot more value with a product that’s just a great.
