I can’t believe that we have made it to the holiday season 2024!
This season has been a whirlwind for me and I have fallen behind on my more detailed blogs. But I wanted to make sure that I took some time to share with you all my thoughts on the Chanel ‘Winter Tales’ 2024 holiday collection.
While I did not purchase the entire collection, I was intrigued by a many of the items that Chanel put out this year. I ended up selecting the Oversized illuminating powder, the eye shadow and blush palette, the Ultrawear Shine Liquid Lip Color and one of the Le Vernis polishes.
As I have mentioned in blogs previously, 2024 has been a year of stepping outside of the box for Chanel Beauty, which as lead to more playful and fun collections.
With Chanel being known for its more maternally style, I think the move towards more youthful trends is overall a good move for the brand. And seeing this move translated into a holiday theme will be fun!
This blog will follow a similar format to my other beauty reviews. Of course there will be a table of contents, so feel free to skip around to the products that interest you the most.
This post will focus strictly on the Chanel 2024 holiday collection. If you want to see my thoughts on the Chanel holiday gifts sets, check out this blog post here.

About the Winter Tales 2024 Holiday Collection
Inspired by the excitement and colors of the Northern Lights, the Winter Tales 2024 Holiday Collection delivers bright punches of colors and sparklers to these dreary, long nights.
Being Valentina Li’s sophomore collection as one of the members of Chanel COMETES COLLECTIVE, we see her continued ability to translate the magic of nature into tangible and cohesive collections.
Colors generally associated with warmer months are now transporting us to festive parties held under the snowy backdrop of the Northern Lights—And we are here for it all!
This collection has been out for some time now on the Chanel website, and more recently is now available at Nordstrom and Macy’s
What I Got
Diamond Dust Oversized Illuminating Powder
Shop Oversized Illuminating Powder here
Inspired by sparkling winter lights, the Diamond Dust Oversized Illuminating Powder is a warm, peachy, pearlescent powder that can be used to highlight all over the body.
Like the years before, this holiday highlighter comes with a playful motif stamped on the powder making it a collectable. This time, we are treated to a dancing circle of stars and other geometric shapes surrounding the classic double C logo.
As a person who has more Chanel highlighters and illuminating powders than anyone should, I do really like this one.
While Chanel highlighters are always very finely milled and set beautifully on the skin, this particular one is more of a pearl dust, very similar to the Fenty Beauty Diamond Ball.
I would still classify this as a highlighter but I do think ‘Diamond Dust’ is an accurate label as there isn’t much pigment in this power, but all the dazzle.
Because this is so finely milled, if you use too wide of a brush, you can soon find your face covered by shifting pearlescent dust.
But still a beautiful product none the less.
One quick last note; there is some sort of cover layer with this highlighter. Over time, the product appears to loose its glitter finish but that is not the case! The first layer of shimmer appears to just be for show but you still end up with the pearlcenct finish without it.
Enchanted Night Eyeshadow and Blush Palette
Shop Enchanted Night Eyeshadow and Blush Palette Here
Pulling from the Northern Lights dancing across the snow, the Enchanted Night Eyeshadow and Blush Palette offers make up lovers a 2-1 product.
While I thought the color selection to be strange at first, most of the colors apply sheer with a brush and can be built upon.
This leads to a mostly warm palette with colors that look more like the setting sun on a cold winter evening.
Even the purple shade leans more warm than cool though it does carry some cool tone shifting glitters.
I personally think it was really cool to see such vibrant and warm colors in a winter themed collection.
The only cool note in this palette would be the silver, which acts like more of a topper. Very similar to the highlighter in my opinion.
The colors look so beautiful and I think they look awesome on a range of skin tones, but this particular formula was a little bit of a struggle for me.
As of late, I have been so use to Chanel shadows feeling buttery soft on my lids with no effort. But while soft in the pan initially these applied patchy to my eyes.
The orange shade was particularly patchy and required a lot of working and blending the pigment in.
I checked the formula and these oversized products look to have a lot less humectants and lipids in them so I wonder if that was part of my issue.
After some trail and error, I fond that these shades are better applied with your fingers or a more dense eyeshawdow brush if you’re using them for your lids.
I think the other thing I struggled with here is the lack of a matte shade.
I’m not sure if a matte shade would really make sense in a pallet designed to be used all over the face, but a matte shade would have helped a lot for sculpting depth in the eyes.
I don’t feel like I struggled as much when using this formula for my face however. My guess though is that’s because you’re looking for a much more diffused looked for your cheeks anyways. They didn’t feel patchy on my cheeks at all.

Rouge Allure Laque— ’Spell’
Shop Rouge Allure Laque Here
I am VERY familiar with the Chanel Le Rouge Duo’s as I feel like these are the best long wear lipstick on the market.
But I have never tried the Rouge Allure Laque, which comes out more frequently in collections.
I decided that it would be good to try these at least once, and I’m glad that I did as it’s a solid liquid lip color.
Chanel boast that this particular lip formula includes polymers that lock in color and hydration for up to 12 hours.
The product did feel nice on my lips. It’s a ticker formulation but it’s not at all drying. And the richness of the color is incredible!
Rouge Allure Laque ‘Spell’ 4 hours of wear with minimal drinking and eating.
I do like the doe foot applicator too; particularly the tilt that allows for a more precise application.
I will say that it’s more long wearing than many other lipsticks out there. But even with letting it dry down, the Rouge Allure doesn’t have the same staying power as the Le Rouge Duo’s.
Even still, I believe the Rouge Allure Laque’s have more color options available and they apply beautifully.
Le Vernis—‘’Charmer”
Shop Le Vernis in “Storyteller” here
I do almost all my manicures at home so I feel okay with spluring on nail polish every once in a while. And at $32.00 a bottle this polish is defiantly a splurge.
I will at some point make a blog all about the Le Vernis nail polishes; all and all its a decent polish just expensive.
I really enjoy how evenly these nails polish dries. It gives you a smooth finish that looks beautiful on the nail.
I also like that these polishes don’t have as strong of a smell that many other cheaper polishes do. It makes it so much easier for when I’m doing my own nails.
I try not to buy these as much anymore because I have so many that I want to use up. But this ‘Charmer” color was just too pretty with it’s electric purple hue

Testing out the nail polish by the Christmas tree
What I Skipped
Like most collections from Chanel, I did not buy the whole thing. Below I go into everything else in the collection and why I skipped it.
Ombre Première Laque
I could be wrong, but I’ve only seen these come out during for the holiday or winter collections.
I’m personally a big fan of the Ombre Première Laque shadows as it makes make up so easy! Its essentially a liquid eye shadow that has a nice texture when dried down and works prefect as a base for other eye shadows.
The only reason why I didn’t purchase this time is because I already have a bottle of this product that I’m working on using up
Rouge Allure L’Extrait
This bullet lipstick boast intense pigment and hydration for your lips.
I’ve swatched this line before and I believe Chanel when they call this a quality lipstick. I particularly love the shine of this product.
But at $56.00 starting with refills costing $42.00, I feel like my money is better spent buying products that I get more enjoyment and utility out of.
Le Liner De Chanel
I absolutely love a good eye liner and I’m a huge fan of the Stylo Yuex pencils.
But out side of those, I have learned that most liners coming out of Chanel just aren’t worth the price in my opinion.
While the liner looks like it will fit nicely in the hand and guild smoothly, I’m hard pressed to see what this $42.00 liner would offer me that is better than the Flylinner from Fenty beauty.

Price & Increase
Chanel is a luxury brand, and we should be expecting luxury prices. But I still like to go over what you get for your money and compare prices from similar collection.
I feel like this is the best way to see what you’re actually getting for your money.
Diamond Dust Oversized Illuminating Powder
The Diamond Dust Illuminating powder retails for $95.00 USD. You receive 0.53oz of product–about .03oz less than in years prior.
This price is also a bit more expensive. The last oversized highlighter they launched for holiday 2023 retailed for $90.00 USD. This is around a 6% price increase.
Earlier I compared this product to the diamond bomb highlighters from Fenty beauty.
Comparing apples to apples, the same amount of the Fenty Diamond bomb would cost you $84.00 USD, a saving of $11.00 USD.
Looking at it this way, you are still paying a mark up for the Chanel name, but its not as extreme as some of their other products are.
Enchanted Night Eyeshadow and Blush Palette
The Enchanted Night Eyeshadow and Blush Palette retails for $88.00 USD. With this, you are receiving 0.42oz of product.
I believe this is comparable to what the oversized quads were running for last year for Valentines day.
Dropping almost a $100.00 USD on eyeshadow is expensive. That said, the Les 4 Ombre quads run $68.00 USD and you only get 0.07oz worth of eyeshadow.
Both products are expensive, but you get 6x more makeup for about a 25% mark up + a wider use of application.
the fact that this palette was deigned to be used for shadow, blush, highlighter and liner truly makes it a 4-1 and a great option for someone who want to play around with Chanel Beauty but not spend hundreds to do so.
Rouge Allure Laque
The Rouge Allure Laque liquid lip colors retail for $48.00 USD.
Since I haven’t tracked this particular product, I don’t know the historical prices.
However I have tracked the Le Rouge Duo Ultra Tenue since 2020 and they seem to stay in the same price range.
The Lip Tenure were retailing for $45.00 towards the end of 2023, making the new price an increase of about 6%.
Compared to other areas of Chanel, this increase isn’t much. But their liquid lips are not pushing the $50.00 mark and I think we’ll be there soon.
Now having tried the Rouge Allure Laque line, I can understand why this is a fan favorite amongst Chanel lovers and for the quality, the price does make sense.
I have not found any long wearing lipstick in drug or department stores that wear as long as the Chanel ones and they defiantly don’t feel as comfortable.
And since these lipsticks are truly long wearing, I don’t go through them fast at all so it’s worth the price for me.
Le Vernis
The Chanel Nail polishes are currently retailing for $32.00 USD.
These prices have been stable here for a while. I don’t think they will creep up more any time soon, as $32.00 USD is a wild price for nail polish when you think about it.
Thought direct competitors like Gucci and Dior sell nail polishes for a similar price–if not more.
While I do enjoy all the fun colors that Chanel offers seasonally and feel like their formula is a healthy one for my nails, there are plenty of drug store nail polishes that are going to work just as good and look just as nice– such as Ella + Mai, Essie and OPI.
While the nail polishes are probably the most accessible beauty product Chanel offers, I would say it’s probably the most over priced as well.

Final Thoughts
This collection marks a full year of beauty coming from Chanel’s Commet Collective.
Overall I think they have been pretty successful, with this launch being a whismical and youthful way to end the year.
I think there are some kinks to work out when it come to planning and formulating the Oversized eye & cheek pallets. I know that they have releases another one for the Spring 2025 Jeux de Lumire collection so I’m hopeful for that.
All that said, I loved the color story and how it translated once I got a handle on how to best use the pallets with my skin.
The sparkler of the highlighter I think encapsulates the idea of winter snow perfectly in a make up format.
And with such a sheer base, I love the icy effect this champagne highlighter gives
The biggest surprise for me was just how nice the Rouge Allure Laque lip color was. I love how thick and smooth the color applied and how it truly was long wearing.
I don’t think there was anything super innovative in this collection– formula or color wise. So I don’t feel like there is anything that true make up lovers need out of this collection.
But the color story is fun and I think any Chanel or luxury beauty lover would enjoy playing in this collection very much!
This collection has been out for a while and is available in departments stores and Chanel.com now.
Did you pick anything up? Let me know what caught your eye!
Love, MonniiBee
