This weekend I celebrated Galentine’s Day with my sorority sisters and a daughter.
I went with an Apres Ski Spa theme and wanted to incorporate these Botanical Lip Oils from The Lip Bar for my girls.
As a TLB Partner, they offer many products that I truly adore and use frequently as part of my daily routine.
But I have yet to try these Prototype Botanical Lip Oils.
So I figure why not make cute little lip gloss charms as a fun spa day craft before test the lip oil out?
In this micro blog, I will show you everything you’ll need to transform and personalize your Prototype Botanical Lip Oil, and give you my quick opinion on this beauty product as a whole.

About the TLB
Founded and currently owned by Women of Color, The Lip Bar was founded by CEO Melissa Butler in 2012.
Seeking to build a beauty brand that was bold, non toxic and ‘…formulated with purpose and integrity…’ Melissa first brought her product to Shark Tank, where she was actually rejected.
Rejection turned into protection and perfection however as The Lip Bar pushed forward, becoming a beauty force that can be found in over 3,000 retail stores nation wide including Walmart, CVS, Meijuer and Amazon.

About Prototype Botanical Lip Oil
For Galentine’s Day, I really wanted to try their Prototype Botanical Lip Oil.
Infused with lavender oil and mango butter, this lip oil formula promises to deliver soothing and calming blend of aromatics and moisture to the skin, conditioning dull and dry lips and delivering a sheer shine that can be worn a lone or on top of lipstick

How to Make Your Lip Gloss Charms
When I saw the shape of these tube the Botanical Lip Oil was held in, I knew it would be prefect for this project.
While this may feel intimidating at first, this is an easy entry level project that is fun to do in a group setting.
You should expect to spend about 10-15 minutes for assembling you charms and won’t need many tools to finish this project.
Of course, if doing this project with young children, be sure to help them with all the shape tools involved.
What You’ll Need
- 🎀 1 Tube of Prototype Botanical Lip Oil from The Lip Bar
- 🎀 1 Engraver tool, or a sharp punch capable of making a small hole (Resparked was kind enough to let me use this one)
- 🎀 Charms and chains (you can by them as a whole kit on Amazon here)
- 🎀 Needle nose pliers
Step 1
Take your tube of Botanical Lip Oil and use your Engraver tool or punch tool to create a hole in the corner on the flat side of the tube.
You will want to make sure you leave enough edge so that the hole you made doesn’t open–you’ll need the hole intact to connect your charms!
Step 2
Opening up the charm kit, select a jump ring and feed it through the hole you just made.
You may need to use the needle nose pliers to open the jump rings up just enough to feed it through the whole, and then clamp it closed again.
Step 3
Select a style of chain that you like from the kit. Using the needle nose pliers or the Engraving tool, cut the chain down to the size you would like for your charms.
Use the needle nose pliers to attach the chain to the jump ring.
Step 4
Select the charms that you like from the kit–anywhere from 1-5 depending on size. Figure out where you’d like them placed on the chain.
Step 5
Using the needle nose pliers, attach your charms to the chain. Some charms come with jump rings attached but some may not, so use the extra provided in the kit to add them
Repeat steps 1-5 for as many tubes as you have on hand. It’s that simple!

My Quick Review
If ya’ll want a more in-depth review of the wear over time and the formula, let me know over on IG and I can put that together at some point.
But for now, I want to quickly share where I think this product can use some improvements and where it really shines.
What I Dislike
For a lip oil this product is very thicc.
While this doesn’t always have to be a bad thing, especially if you’re living in a very dry climate like me, it feels heavier than the lip oils that I’m use too.
I feel like adding this on top of a lip stick will feel too thick.
It also has a little bit of stickiness to it. It’s not bad, but I can feel it when I talk. I feel like this formulate would benefit from being just a bit lighter.

What I Really Enjoy
First I really enjoy the overall design of the Prototype Botanical Lip Oil Container.
It features an airless pump to help keep the product fresh and hygienic as well as four vents on the applicator to help control the flow of the product (something you need when your toddler gets a hold of this product).
These two features alone make the product feel very high end.
While the formulate may be a bit too thick, it is very hydrating and the mango butter shows up to lock that moister into the skin right away. You can really tell that it’s conditioning your lips.
And the wonderful scent of lavender is not over powering at all but is so lovely when you catch it.

Price Point
These retail for $14.00 USD for 0.304 fl/oz of product. They can be found on The Lip Bar website as well as on Amazon.com in all 5 shades.
This is on the higher end for drug store beauty; nearly double the price of some of their competitors.
However, you are getting slightly more product.
You’re also getting a better quality of product that is closer to those in department stores at a significant price reduction.
So while it might be the most expense lip oil in it’s category, you are getting a great deal on the product

Do I Recommend Trying This?
This truly feels like a skin care product and not just a trendy beauty product.
it’s more expensive than its direct competitors but they are offering you better quality over all which means a lot to me as a consumer.
While I would never all lip oil a need, if you have the extra money to spend, this is something that I would absolutely others try!
