It’s Black History Month!

So I have to make sure that I highlight at least a few Black artist this year on the blog.

I’ll be doing a series of much shorter post that get straight to the point about some of my favorite designs and beauty products from Black designers and Black Owned Businesses.

One bag that came as a surprise favorite of mine last year was the Brandon Blackwood Kendrick Trunk.

I bought mine towards the end of last year and stayed in the bag for a good 2 months solid.

So for today’s blog, in a more rapid style pace, I’m going to share my thoughts and opinions on this handbag.

I HIGHLY suggest checking out the Brandon Blackwood site to buy from them directly first to support Black business.

But the Kendrick Trunk and many other pieces of his can move fast.

Pre loved is a great way to source some of the best of his collections.

What I Don’t Like

There are some design issues with the Kendrick Trunk; for example how the gussets on the sides of the trunk don’t come all the way down, so thinner items like pens may slip out.

The bag itself also doesn’t open wide so while it can fit a surprising amount for its size, it can be difficult to navigate.

It does come with a strap but I find that it’s a bag that I prefer to hold by the top handle. Because of its natural boxy shape, I don’t enjoy how the hard trunk bounces on my side when I move.

None of that stopped me from wanting to use this bag though.

What I do Like

The Kendrick Trunk comes in many fun prints and textures, making it something easily collectible.

I opted for the brown cow print which pairs well with a lot of things believe it or not.

As mentioned earlier, this is a bag that I prefer to wear by the top handle.

The drop for the handle is large enough for it to sit comfortably on my wrist so I still feel like I can have a hands free experience with this bag.

This bag has traveled with me, come to appointments, school pick ups and plays, daily house runs and over all. Its a solid bag that I think will work for most people.

Price Point

This bag also has a really great price point for luxury, starting at $275.00 USD for mini trunks and upwards of $385.00 USD for more lux types like pony hair and snakeskin.

If you’re looking to enter the luxury space in 2026 while getting the most for your money, these Kendrick Trunks are definitely the place to start.

One thing to note about these Kendrick Trunks though–they can sell out fast. They are often made on a limited run with the more luxury type trunks having unique patterns on them.

So if you see a style that you like, you might want to hop on it quickly.

What Fits

No blog about a handbag feels complete without a section sharing what can fit inside. So here’s a quick list:

You could fit more in this bag if you wanted too. But it will start to become more difficult to find your items.

Honorable Mentions

Since I’m already here talking about Brandon Blackwood, it feels only right that I talk about a few other pieces that they have that I just adore.

Starting with the rose bouquet clutch made with the most beautiful leather rosettes you have ever seen!

My husband bought this for me the day of my DEIP flap surgery and it’s honestly art in my wardrobe.

Last year he released this in pink and green. This year it was released in black. It looks like its now sold out, but sometimes it pops back in the shop

The taxi cab crystal clutch is another pieces that looks stunning!

While I don’t own this, I got the chance to see this in person and it’s on my wish list for down the road.

It doesn’t hold much, so it would be something more fitted for events over family days out.

But much like the roses, it would make for a great piece of art if you willing to pay the nearly $400.00USD for it.

Lastly, the Tina Heel keeps getting away from me!

If I could squeeze into a size 6 I would (but I stand no chance!)

I NEED a nice thick feather-y open toed pump in my shoe collection and these fit the bill perfectly.

Brandon Blackwood has a few avant-garde type shoes in their collection and I have found that I like having a little something different with my heels when I can, so I keep my eyes out on their shoe section.

Final Thoughts

I don’t think Brandon Blackwood gets enough love in the luxury space. I hope that changes for 2026.

His collections are niche, high quality and playful with design in a way that’s different from a lot of other American design houses.

While I am hoping to see more come out in ready to wear from them, their accessories are so luxuriously while still remaining playful joyful.
