I got the chance to watch a specail premiere of ‘Wicked-For Good’ with Amazon Prime earlier this week and 3 days later I’m still not over it.
So before I go and watch it again on Friday (and I never watch a movie twice in theaters ) I wanted to chat about and review the film in a non spoiler type of way.
And of course, this wouldn’t be a fashion blog if I didn’t talk about my outfit, so I’ll be getting into what I wore for this magical night as well.
TL:DR– Wicked–For Good is worth the watch, ESPECIALLY if you’re invested in gaining closure from part one or if you have watched the play and want to relive the magic from that.
Again, no real spoilers in this review, but we will talk about themes, expectations and of course, fashions.

Money saving movie hack
If you enjoy the whole experience of going out to the theaters but don’t like the creeping cost, consider join Rakuten.
Yes, I use then for just about all my luxury purchases, but I use them for a lot of my regular and daily purchases too.
You can save up to 2% cash back or 2% off gift cards for Fandango or AMC– or up to 2% off gift cards for Vudu if you prefer movie nights at home like myself simply by being a Rakuten Member.
Every little bit adds up! I have save just about $1500 just by using Rakuten alone.
And Rakuten is so easy to use, just add the browser extension to save automatically when you visit a partnering site, or stop by their page before you shop. Rakuten handles the cashback automatically for you.
Right now Rakuten is kind enough to offer an additional $50 cash back on qualifying purchases of $50 or more.
So you could buy a $50 gift card to the movies and the deal would pay for itself–that’s real math, not girl math.
Use this link to get saving with Rakuten today. But hurry, this $50 deal won’t last forever
What I Wore
Because this is a fashion blog, I want to start off with what I wore–because of course I dressed up.
A BIG part of me wanted to dress up in the wonderful ball gowns that JJs House sent me last year for Wicked Part 1.
But I kept it a bit reserved and instead choose to go with this beautiful feather trimmed dress from Sleeper that has been on repeat in my closet for a while now and paired it with this jacket dress that I pick up from Shoedazzle this spring.

For my shoes, I opted for wearing my suede pink Louboutins that I picked up from Yoogi’s coset and matched it with my Chanel rectangular mini that you can read more about here
The combination of pastels pinks with the pop of green and fluffy and silky textures felt very Galinda coded to me and so many people agreed.
I don’t dress for other people, but it’s always wonderful when people take the time to notice and acknowledge how wonderful an outfit came together.
And of course, I just love chatting about a good thrift find or sustainable look.

One thing I do want to say is that A LOT of people dressed up as well and ya’ll that made me so happy!
If you’re planning to go see this movie and you feel it in your spirit to dress up, please go for it! I promise you, your people will be there.

Theater experience
I wanted to take some time to talk about the theater experince a bit because this isn’t something that I often see in reviews but is something marketing teams put some thought into.
So if you’re going , you should be aware.
IMAX
Like so many other films nowadays you can watch this in the IMAX format. It is an INCREDIBLE experience.
That said, I do feel like it was way louder than the other movies I have seen in IMAX. to the point where I wanted earplugs at some points.
if you’re really sensitive to sounds, you may want to bring a pair with you if you’re watching in this format.
Promotional products
Cups and Buckets
There are a lot of promotional products that go along with this movie– at least with AMC there is. And everyone wanted a piece!
I got to the theater a little early (about 45 minutes before the movie itself started) and immediately went into the food line which was LONG.
The first thing to go were the collectable cups. the last one sold to the woman right next to me (who was so kind and offered it to me to buy instead but I turned it down because I had my eye on something else as well)
The Elphaba cups were long gone by the time I got in line, and the Galinda cups went next. I get it– they were cute and cheaper than the popcorn buckets…
Which I did get. I couldn’t help myself; It’s a bubble and it lights up!
My children love this and well, I’m considering it an early holiday gift.
This bucket wasn’t sold out by the time if left the theater but they didn’t have much left for the day. I’m pretty sure it sold out for the second viewing
It should be noted that at least AMC did separate out merch, so they still have stock for general amdission this Friday.
Snacks
I do feel like snacks are the biggest scam at the movies. But I do get that this is where they get the bulk of their revenue from, especially with big movies like Wicked. So I tried the soda and the popcorn.
They have a whole line of Coke products devoted to the world of Oz. I can’t remember them all, but I tried the 2 Galinda Sprite drinks and the Fizz Root Beer.
Honestly, the Sprites all tasted the same, with this hyper sugary cotton candy like taste overlaying everything– it wasn’t my favorite.
The root beer was much better, but didn’t taste much different than root beer.
I say all of this to say: These drinks ran out fast and some people were disappointed that they didn’t get to try them. Don’t be, they are not that special and I’m glad I only tried a small sample of them.
What to expect
Without spoiling the movie for ya’ll, I wanted to talk about what you can expect going into this.
Themes
While this was filmed back in 2020, the themes of this movie felt really poignant for today.
Over arching themes of duality within one’s self, the complexity of love and family and creating space within your community were heavily focused on and I felt like the movie translated these well.
But Wicked–For Good (for me at least) really digs into questions like:
What does showing up for the voiceless truly look like in action?
How can one work within an authoritarian system to bring about meaningful change?
Can those without social clout truly bring about social change without insider help?
If you are living in America (or watching what is happening here, all these question may feel a little on the noise, but these themes are certainly and interesting lens to watch this flim from.

Pacing
I did want to talk about the pacing real quick because I doo feel like this is the biggest differences transitioning from part 1 to 2.
The pacing for part 2 felt quick.
There are a few scenes that felt like they dragged on longer than they should purely for the theatrics of it all.
Because of that, other parts which could have benefited from some extended time and background felt like they were cut short.
The pacing took away from some of the magic that part one had for sure. That said, Cynthia, Ariana and the whole cast still gave what needed to be gave and I hands down recommend watching this franchise

Use of fashion and beauty as literally devices
This is a beauty and fashion blog, so I would be remiss if I didn’t take a moment to talk about the costuming.
I love how the outfits themselves reflect where the characters are in their lifespan.
From conveaying the naivety of the past, to the complacency and heartache some of the characters have experienced to ultimately revealing and reflecting the growth of these characters in their ‘final forms’; the costumes for these characters were so well thought out.
But all, I just want to know where everyone in Oz was getting their hair and nails done too because the styles were immaculate.
My final thoughts
While the second movie didn’t top the first one for me, Wicked- For good is still a must see.
If you want a promotional keepsake, I would arrive to the theater early as they will go quick. And while I think the promotional snacks are a fun idea, they’re an over all skip IMO.
But overall this is a beautiful and powerful story. Every part of the cast and crew did their big one to bring this to life and I can’t recommend it enough!
Thank you again Amazon Prime for the early access, it was so much fun! If you plan on seeing this movie, be sure to stop by Rakuten first to claim your $50 as a new member and get 2% cash back with the purchase of a gift card.
