Today is my 8th wedding anniversary and I wanted to try and figure out a good way to tie in my wedding into a beauty blog.
Then it hit me; I’ve been wanting to talk about the YSL Loveshine Lip Oil Sticks forever and this is a product that I’m very familiar with as I used it as my wedding day lipstick!
But if I talk about the Loveshine Lip Oil Sticks, then I have to also talk about the two newer releases from YSL–the Candy Glaze Lip Gloss Sticks and the Candy Glow Tinted Butter Balms.
I’m a hydrated, dripping gloss kind of girl when it comes to my lips. I love a buttery glossy glaze like a doughnut! All these products are right up my alley and I’m so excited to share them with you.
So for todays blog, I will be introducing you to the three oil based YSL lip products; highlighting each one as well as giving you comparisons and differentials.

The YSL oil based products
With oils being the common denominator with these lines of product from YSL, you can expect a beautiful shine for sure! but what makes a oil based lip product different from a regular lip stick?
Lip oils differer from lipsticks in that they tend to be more occlusive, meaning that they will be very hydrating and moisturizing.
Because of the higher oil content, the pigments in these products also tends to appear more flush and natural compared to traditional lip product and may make your lips appear more plump.
YSL currently offers 3 oil based lip products, and while the packing may look the same, they really are all different with their own distinct benefits.
We will go over comparisons more in-depth later; but for now we’ll go over each product on its own.

Loveshine
Originally the Rouge Volupte Shine, Loveshine was launched with a lot of success in January 2015, and only recently rebranded in March 2024 to come in a silver component with an updated ‘YSL’ logo.
While I have read some conflicting information online, according to Sephora and YSL the newly revamped Loveshine oil lipstick is the same product as the originally Rouge Volupte Shine with the addition of 6 new nourishing oils.
The Loveshine oil lipstick is iconic in that it has expertly blended the pigments of a lipstick with its 60% oil base and fig pulp, leaving you with a product that just melts buildable color into your lips.

YSL claims that this product offers you up to 24 hours of hydration and protection from dryness. While I will say that this is technically true, this product does wear off pretty quickly if you are eating or drinking. I personally think its best to apply the oil lipstick to your lips and let the oils sink in for at lest 30 minutes before you eat or dink, they way you can absorb some of the benefits first before wipes away.
I have loved wearing this product for over 8 years now because you can feel the oils softening and plumping your lips.
In fact, YSL did a clinical trail with over 100 participants and found that most people felt like their lips were softer and more moisturized after 2 weeks worth of wear. While it’s difficult for me to put much stock in a study that has been funding by the company being studied, from my own experience, these finding ring true.
Candy Glaze

Next in this line up of product are the YSL Candy Glazes, released in the summer 2023.
The Candy Glaze is a lip gloss stick with an incredible shine and color pay off for a jelly like product.
It has a thick jelly like consistency but isn’t sticky like some other lip jellies can be. Much like the Loveshine oil lipstick, you can feel this product melt down into your lips, giving you this juicy and hydrating color.

While you can’t really build up the color with Candy Glaze, it’s fairly pigmented for a jelly gloss with a medium coverage. The glasslike shine that the gloss leaves behind makes the color look very vibrant as well.
The Candy Glaze lip gloss boast high amounts of vitamin E as well as hyaluronic acid, mango oil & pomegranate to help plum and moisturize the lips even more.
The component for the Candy Glaze is also slightly different from the rest as it comes with a clicking mechanism. YSL says that six clicks gives you the prefect amount for 1 application. My guess is that since this product is so melty, pushing too much outside of the applicator can make it prone to breakage.
Candy Glow

Also released this year in 2024 is the YSL Candy Glow Lip Balms. and unlike its predecessors, the Candy Glow comes in a pink component.
This is a true balm product that melts into the earth of your skin with shea butter and maracuja oil.
This product is not very pigmented. It does however utilizing pH adjusting pigments to give a personal and gently flush of color to your lips. It’s important to note that pH pigments don’t adjust to your skin tone but rather to your skins ph content, so it’s not like a truly color match customization here.
Still, I find these colors to be soft and natural enough to work well on just about any skin color and tone.

Because of how light and neutral this lip balm is as well as it being super hydrating, the YSL Candy Glow can also be used a a lip primer. I’m not one to wear a lot of traditional lipstick colors anymore, but when I have tried it out as a primer, I do feel like it made it easier to apply some of my more drying lipsticks.
YSL also chose to make this a clean formula, with 98% of the ingredients coming from natural origin. As someone who is pretty conscious about what I put on my skin, I love seeing beauty brands move more towards naturally created and driveled ingredients. However, this isn’t marked as a clean beauty product by a third party so take this with a dash of salt.
Lastly, this product has also been clinically tested with YSL. Again, tested on over 100 people, the majority of participants found their lips to appear more smooth with improved texture after 2 weeks.
From top to bottom: Candy Glow, Candy Glaze, Loveshine
What’s the same
While these are 3 distinct products, they do all carry some similarities.
The first obvious similarity is the packaging. Besides slight minor differences, they all have the same basic component and shape. This can make it very confusing for consumers as many have thought that all 3 were the same product before.
All 3 of these products are jammed packed with nourishing oils that will leave your lips feeling moisturized for at least 12 hours.
And while all 3 products are beautiful, none of them last terribly long especially if you’re eating and drinking. So these are definitely products that you will want to take with you in your bag.

What’s different
These products share a lot in common, but they truly are 3 different products.
The Loveshine is going to be closes to your traditional lipstick. It has a buildable formula while the others do not and produces more of a creamy shine.
Although its more opaque than the Candy Glaze, its still a pretty light formula.
Loveshine has a range of 20 shades and is the most expensive of the lot at $45.00 USD for 3.2gm of product
Candy Glaze I think is the middle ground of all these formulas. It is high shine and glossy with a medium amount of pigment.
Unlike the others, this formula feels a lot heavier than the others and is more of a jelly consistency.

While Candy Glaze does use vitamin E, mango oil and pomegranate in its formula, it does not advertise itself to be skin care like in the same way that Loveshine and Candy Glow do. However this formula will have your lips feeling just as hydrated.
Candy Glaze falls right in the middle price wise at $42.00 USD for 3.2 gm of product with 12 shades in the range.
Lastly the Candy Glow lip balms are going to apply very sheerly compared to the other two, giving you a ver soft focus shine typical of other lip balms.
This is the lightest of the formulas however with all the skin care ingredients listed, it is probably the best option for those focused on lip health.
It also is the only product of these 3 that makes sure of ph adaptive pigments in order to give you a slightly more custom look.
The Candy Glow lip balms are the least expensive of these 3 coming in at $40.00 USD for 3.1 gm of product and has a range of 6 shades

Which one is right for you
If you’re trying to decide which one of these products is worth giving a go (and you’re not looking to just buy all 3) then here are a few things to keep in mind:
- 1) If you are looking for a lip product for photoshoots or and event, then you may be happier with the color payoff form the Loveshine line
- 2) If you are looking for something more natural and you don’t want too much color, then try the Candy Glow
- 3) If you’re after the jelly doughnut, summer shine look, Candy Glaze is the product you should try

Final Thoughts
I loved the Loveshine oil lipstick so much that I made it my wedding lipstick 8 years ago and I still love this product!
I’m so glad that YSL has revamped this product and has now launched similar (but different) oil based lip products as well.
All 3 of these are great for different situations and I find these products in rotation in my bag more often than other lip products.
At over $40.00USD, these are an expensive lip product. These do go on sale thought both on the YSL site and on Sephora. so I try to pick mine up then.
I also like to stack my savings with Rakuten, seeing that I can get 2% cash back both online and in stores with Sephora and 4% cash back at YSL Beauty. Especially with these luxury purchases, and amount of cash back is welcomed.
Is this a product you’re considering? I would love to hear your thought down below or over on instagram. Also, don’t forget to check out my Youtube as ‘m posting over there again.
Happy shopping ya’ll!
Love,
Monnii Bee
